![]() In Boston, most everything is historical. There are many old restaurants and pubs that have an interesting past. Most sightseeing tours will tell you about the most famous ones. Then of course there are historical sites that commemorates battles and great men and women.
John F. Kennedy National Historic Site in Brookline (the humble home where JFK was born) Bunker Hill Monument in Charlestown. It stands on the site of the first major battle of the American Revolution, fought on Breed's Hill, June 17, 1775. Pilgrim Hall Museum in Plymouth, MA. Newly renovated you can learn all about the history of the pilgrims voyage to America and how they lived here after their arrival. Adams National Historical Park in Quincy tells the story of four generations of the Adams (2nd and 6th U.S. Presidents) family (from 1720 to 1927). Both father and son became presidents. Gore Place - the historic Governor Gore Estate. This is a house museum and estate of the early 19th century just 9 miles west of Boston. This was the home of our 7th governor Christopher Gore and his wife Rebecca Amory Payne Gore. The 1806 mansion house is considered one of the finest Federal period homes in the country. They offer tours M-F all year, and weekend tours April to November. They have lots of activities as well from farm festivals to evening tours to sheep shearing! |

Museum of Fine Arts Free admission on Wednesday nights. The new wing "Art of the Americas' which opened in November 2010 is excellent! Great cafe as well. Isabella Stewart Gardner See if they have a concert! Free entrance if your name is Isabella. Isabella Stewart Gardner built this museum (opened 1903) to house her vast (somewhat random) collection of art, furniture, antiques, and more. Personally, it's not the collection that is the most amazing thing - it is the Italian courtyard with orchids, palm trees, and other exotic plants. It's absolutely beautiful and well worth visiting. It's a 2 minute walk from the Museum of Fine Arts so you could potentially visit both. ICA - Institute of Contemporary Art Free admissions on Thursday evenings DeCordova Museum & Sculpture Park A great place for a long walk in the woods combined with a visit to their art museum. 93 to 95 (128 S), exit 28, Trapelo Road to Lincoln) Peabody-Essex Museum in Salem, MA. Housed in a beautiful building. You will often find Asian exhibits here, There's a cafe, and a great museum store. A really nice day trip. Museum of Bad Art in Dedham is the world's only museum dedicated to the collection, preservation, exhibition and celebration of bad art in all its forms. New England Aquarium Visit the seals outside for free and then visit the fabulous Aquarium. Did you know you can stay overnight with the kids at the Aquarium? Check the calendar for upcoming sleep overs. The Aquarium also offers whale watching tours.
